Nigel Ellis’ interpretations of his own drawings have become increasingly free and inventive. His mantra whilst working has been ‘closer, closer, closer’ as he focuses in on the elements of his subjects.

This has resulted in an amplitude of gesture, a rich new freedom of translation….. at once dispensing and concealing meaning through subtle brushwork.
